If you need help right now

This site is not a crisis service. Messages and booking requests are not monitored around the clock, and there may be a delay before anyone reads yours.

  • Thoughts of suicide or self harm: call or text 988, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, any time.
  • Gambling crisis support: call or text the National Problem Gambling Helpline on 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738), any time.

Qualifications, and where they apply

Michael Zhang holds a PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Sydney and is registered as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia. He spent five years treating gambling problems at the University of Sydney Gambling Treatment and Research Clinic.

He is not licensed as a psychologist in Nevada or in any other United States jurisdiction. He does not practise psychology, diagnose conditions or provide psychological treatment to anyone in the United States, and nothing on this site should be read as an offer to do so.

What is being offered

Coaching, consulting and speaking. Coaching is a working relationship aimed at behaviour change and at building the life around it. It draws on clinical training and research, and it is still coaching.

Coaching is not psychotherapy, counselling, psychiatric care, addiction treatment or medical care. It does not involve diagnosis, treatment plans or medication. It is not a substitute for care from a licensed clinician where care is what you need. If what you describe calls for licensed treatment, Michael will say so and point you toward it.

No professional relationship from using this site

Reading this site, booking a call or sending a message does not create a therapist and client relationship, a psychologist and client relationship, or any other licensed professional relationship. A coaching relationship begins only when both of you have agreed terms in writing.

Confidentiality has limits

What you say is treated as private and is not discussed with anyone else without your agreement. Be aware that coaching does not carry the legal privilege that attaches to licensed therapy in the United States. If someone demands your records through a court, they may not be protected in the way therapy records are. Information may also be disclosed where the law requires it, or where there is a serious and immediate risk to your safety or someone else’s.

General information, not personal advice

Everything published on this site, including interviews, talks, articles and research references, is general information. It is not advice about your situation, and it is not medical, psychological, legal or financial advice. Gambling problems often come with debt, legal trouble and family conflict. Speak to a qualified professional in the relevant field before acting on anything you read here.

No promised outcome

No result is guaranteed. Whether someone stops gambling and stays stopped depends on far more than the work done together, and outcomes differ from person to person. Nothing on this site is a promise or a prediction about what will happen for you.

Outside links and media

Podcasts, interviews and other links point to material published by other people. Michael does not control that material, is not responsible for it, and does not necessarily endorse everything said in it or everything else those publishers produce.
